“Images are not only works of art, but also instruments for disseminating knowledge"

8th Visual Learning Conference, 26. April 2018.

In the wake of the 8th Budapest Visual Learning Conference a series of three volumes is to be published. The first volume, *Vision Fulfilled: The Victory of the Pictorial Turn* is now completed (link see below). Its summary message: "This volume convincingly demonstrates that after the temporary dominance of excessively verbal thinking in the age of the printed word, during the past decades a pictorial turn has actually happened – in the real world, in the sciences, and in most of the humanities. Human thinking is primordially visual. In the course of human evolution it was the language of gestures, not verbal language, which introduced conceptual order into the episodic imagery of pre-linguistic thought. The idea of the primacy of the visual, beginning with Plato, is continuous through Aristotle to the British Empiricists in the 17th–18th centuries, and is today once more on the rise."

"Perspectives on Visual Learning" publication of the conference is avaible here.
