English edition of the National Atlas of Hungary voted world number one

The most prestigious professional prize was awarded to the English edition of the Natural Environment volume of the National Atlas of Hungary, edited by the Geographical Institute of Research.

The biennial International Cartographic Conference (ICC) was held in Tokyo between 15 and 20 July 2019 by the International Cartographic Association (ICA). The traditional International Cartographic Exhibition included in the programme always displays the most outstanding cartographic products of the previous two years, after a preselection process is carried out.

The international professional board awards recent cartographic products in seven categories. The first prize in the “Atlas” category was awarded to to the English edition of the Natural Environment volume of the National Atlas of Hungary. The Natural Environment volume of the Hungarian National Atlas of Hungary proved to be the best out of the more than forty publications in the “Atlas” category of the 2017–2019 period, and was thus awarded the “ICA International Cartographic Exhibition Award Winner” title.

The board highlighted the cartographic versatility of the comprehensive atlas depicting Hungary’s natural environment, accompanied by infographics, graphs and texts.
