New volume of Hungarian National Atlas now available in English

The printed English version of the new volume, Natural Environment will appear in bookshops at the beginning of January. The digital version, however, is already freely downloadable, similarly to the Hungarian volume.

The online English version of the Natural Environment volume of the National Atlas of Hungary was published by the Geographical Institute, Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on 18 December 2018. The publication of the atlas was supported by the MTA and the Government. The volume includes appraisals from Viktor Orbán Prime Minister, Miklós Kásler, Minister of Human Capacities, and László Lovász, President of the MTA on the first pages.

The book launch of the Hungarian publication of the atlas, which is also an important national symbol, was held in the Palace of the Academy on 27 September 2018. The English version is to facilitate the government’s tasks of foreign affairs, public and higher education in English and it also aims at providing authentic information on Hungary for foreigners.

The printed English version of the new volume will appear in bookshops at the beginning of January. The full digital version, however, is already freely downloadable, just like the volume in Hungarian. Hence, the atlas is freely available globally, which is almost unprecedented in the world. Only the National Atlas of Germany is downloadable without payment besides the Hungarian series.
