Cross-continental exchange of scientific experience in Budapest
Scientists of fourteen nations have met for discussion in Budapest at the conference “Science and Diplomacy: Central Europe and Southern Mediterranean – exchange of experience in the framework of an Italo-Hungarian International Year of Culture and Science”. At the event organised by MTA, the Embassy of Italy, the Italian Institute of Culture in Budapest, and TWA a welcoming speech was given by President of MTA József Pálinkás.

World Science Forum goes global: Rio welcomes the world forum after Budapest
At its meeting in Paris, World Science Forum's (WSF) Steering Committee finalised the November programme of the international event series initiated by Hungary. On the initiative of MTA, the world forum will be held outside Europe for the first time with Rio de Janeiro hosting the event this year.

MTA Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2013

Hungarian academician in the scientific advisory council to European Commission’s President
Brain Prize holder Hungarian neurobiologist, full member of MTA Tamás Freund was elected member of the Science and Technology Advisory Council to European Commission’s President José Manuel Barroso. The council consists of fifteen prominent scientists such as Nobel Prize in Chemistry winner Israeli biochemist Ada Yonath or Fields Medal holder French mathematician Cedric Villani.

Identity card of the Carpatho–Pannonian Area – an ethnic atlas from the Academy
An important public duty of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences is to publish map collections to deepen knowledge about the motherland, support well-established decision making, and promote education. MTA introduced a forerunner of the volumes to be published within the scope of the new National Atlas Programme, a publication about the changing ethnic patterns of the Carpathian Basin and its neighbourhood.

Teaming of the excellent to support development in the European Research Area
"Hungary has considerable scientific traditions, it has outstanding scientific infrastructure, its distinguished scientists are acknowledged all over the world, and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences has recently renewed its research institute network in terms of efficiency and competitiveness," President of Max Planck Society Peter Gruss said explaining why he had chosen MTA as the venue for introducing his initiative.
