Increasing Visibility of Women Scientists: Insights from Jess Wade - webinar to be organised on March 12, 2026

Join Jess Wade's Inspiring Webinar!

Jess Wade is a British physicist at Imperial College London who has actively combated the underrepresentation of women and minorities in STEM by creating over 2100 Wikipedia pages since 2018, spotlighting overlooked women and underrepresented scientists in STEM. This vital effort fights Wikipedia's gender bias (only ~18% of biographies are women), ensuring diverse pioneers like those from marginalized backgrounds or underrepresented groups gain lasting recognition as role models, inspiring future STEM talent.

Event Details

This is the third webinar of the Academia Europaea Budapest Knowledge Hub's Empowering women in science within Europe with emphasis on the Danube Region project (in the frame of From Knowledge to Action initiative), managed by Eszter Gselmann and Katalin Solymosi. This event – specifically organized around the International Women’s Day – follows the December 11, 2025 Workshop which offered a practical guide to Wikipedia editing.

  • Date: 12 March 2026
  • Time: 14:00–15:00 CET (60-min Zoom)

During the event, Jess Wade will share details of her own journey as a researcher, her inner motivation to start this initiative and experiences with this task. Her presentation will be followed by Q&A session and brief explanation of the Academia Europaea initiative which includes the production of Wikipedia pages of women researchers from the Danube region (and beyond) and is looking for volunteers.

The event will be recorded and shared later on our YouTube channel.
